How to Install FNF Mods on Mobile
The complete guide to install Friday Night Funkin' V-Slice mods on Android and iOS. Whether you are a complete beginner or you are having trouble getting a mod to work, this guide covers everything you need to know.
Since the official release of FNF Mobile in summer 2025, playing mods on your phone has become much easier than before. Instead of installing a separate APK for each mod, you can now simply drop V-Slice mod folders into the official game and play them all from one app. In this guide, we will walk you through the entire process step by step.

If you prefer to follow along with a video, here are two guides that cover the entire installation process and common errors:
Before You Start
Before installing any mod, make sure you have the following:
- Friday Night Funkin' installed on your Android or iOS device from the official app store.
- Open the game at least once before trying to install mods. This is important because the game needs to run once in order to generate the necessary folders (including the
modsfolder). If you skip this step, the mod folder will not exist and you will not be able to install anything. - A V-Slice compatible mod. Only mods that have been ported to the V-Slice format will work with the official FNF Mobile app. Mods made for Psych Engine or Codename Engine will NOT work. All mods published on V-Slice.com are already in the correct V-Slice format and ready to install.
- A file manager app (Android users may need ZArchiver if the default file manager does not let you access the game folders).
How to Install FNF Mods on Android
Step 1: Download the Mod
Download the V-Slice mod you want to install. You can find all available mods on our homepage. The file will usually be a .zip or .rar archive.
Step 2: Open FNF and Access the Data Folder
Open Friday Night Funkin' on your phone. Go to Options (or Settings) and tap on "Open Data Folder". This will open your phone's file manager directly inside the FNF game folder, where you will see the mods folder.
Step 3: Extract the Mod
Navigate to your Downloads folder and find the mod file you just downloaded. Tap on it to extract (unzip) it. If your default file manager cannot extract zip files, download ZArchiver from the Play Store (free, 100+ million downloads) and use it to extract the file.
Step 4: Move the Mod Folder
Once extracted, you should have a folder containing the mod files (weeks, songs, characters, etc.). Move or copy this entire folder into the mods folder of FNF.
The location of the mods folder depends on your Android version:
- Android 13 and newer:
Android/OBB/mi.funkin.fnf/mods/ - Android 10, 11, 12:
Android/data/mi.funkin.fnf/files/mods/
Android/OBB or Android/data folders are restricted and cannot be accessed from the default file manager. If this happens to you, use ZArchiver to browse your phone storage. ZArchiver has the necessary permissions to access these protected folders and move files into them.
Step 5: Open the Game and Play
Close and reopen Friday Night Funkin'. The mod should now appear automatically. If you installed only one mod, the game will usually boot directly into that mod. If you have multiple mods installed, you can find them in the Freeplay menu.
mods/MyMod/weeks/, NOT mods/MyMod/MyMod/weeks/. If there is a folder within a folder, the game will not be able to read the mod.
How to Install FNF Mods on iOS (iPhone & iPad)
Installing mods on iOS is generally easier than on Android because there are no folder permission issues.
Step 1: Download the Mod
Open Safari or Chrome on your iPhone and download the V-Slice mod you want. You can browse all available mods on our homepage.
Step 2: Unzip the File
Open the Files app on your iPhone. Navigate to the folder where the download was saved (usually inside your browser's folder, e.g., On My iPhone > Chrome or On My iPhone > Safari Downloads). Tap on the .zip file once to extract it. iOS will automatically create a folder with the mod contents.
Step 3: Verify the Mod Folder
Open the extracted folder and make sure it contains the actual mod files (you should see subfolders like weeks, songs, etc.). This is the folder you need to move.
Step 4: Move the Mod to FNF
Long press (hold) on the mod folder and select "Move" or "Copy". Then navigate to:
On My iPhone > Friday Night Funkin > mods
Tap "Move" (or long press inside the mods folder and select "Paste"). The mod files will be copied into the game's mod directory.
Step 5: Open FNF and Enjoy
Open Friday Night Funkin' and the mod should load automatically. You can access all installed mods from the Freeplay menu.
Fix: Mods Not Showing After FNF Update 0.8.0
After FNF Mobile was updated to version 0.8.0, many mods that previously worked stopped showing up in the game. This is because the mods were made for an older version of the game (0.7.x) and the game no longer recognizes them as compatible.
The fix is simple: you need to update a small configuration file inside the mod to tell the game it is compatible with the new version.
How to Fix It (Step by Step)
- You will need ZArchiver (Android) or any text editor (iOS) to edit a file inside the mod.
- Navigate to the mod folder inside your FNF
modsdirectory. - Find and open the file called
polymod.meta(sometimes namedpolymod.json). - Look for the line that says
api_version. It will probably show something like0.7.0or0.7.5. - Change that value to
0.8.0. - Save the file and close it.
- Open FNF again. The mod should now appear in the game.
Troubleshooting and Common Problems
The mod does not appear in the game
- Did you open FNF at least once before installing? The game needs to run once to generate the mods folder.
- Is the mod in the correct folder? Double check that the mod folder is inside
mods/and not somewhere else. - Is there a folder inside a folder? The mod files (weeks, songs, etc.) should be directly inside the mod's folder. If there is an extra nested folder, move the contents up one level.
- Is the mod a V-Slice mod? Only mods in V-Slice format work with the official FNF Mobile app. Psych Engine and Codename Engine mods are not compatible.
- Check the api_version. If you updated FNF to 0.8.0, read the fix section above.
The game crashes when loading a mod
- The mod may not be fully compatible. Some mods work partially: certain songs load fine while others crash. This usually means the mod needs an update from its porter.
- Your device may not have enough power. FNF mods can be demanding, especially on older phones. If the game consistently crashes on a specific mod, try a lighter mod first to check if it is a performance issue.
- Try reinstalling the mod. Delete the mod folder from the mods directory, re-extract the original zip file, and copy it again.
I cannot access the Android/OBB or Android/data folder
This is a common issue on Android devices. The default file manager on many phones restricts access to these system folders. The solution is to use ZArchiver, which has the permissions to browse and modify files in these protected directories. Once installed, open ZArchiver, grant it file access permissions, and navigate to your FNF game folder.
Mods conflict with each other
In some cases, having multiple mods installed at the same time can cause issues where mod files interfere with each other. If you experience visual glitches or crashes that only happen when you have several mods installed, try removing all mods except the one you want to play and test it on its own.
